"You only live once, but if you do it right, once is enough."
– Mae West
Zoё Taylor lives in the Energy Corridor of Houston, Texas, with her husband, two children, and a menagerie of cats (who never get near your cakes). She was born in Norway to British parents, moved to England as a toddler, and then on to Houston as a girl, ultimately graduating there from Awty International School. Her original career was teaching high school, particularly literature and language, after earning her English degrees from University of Texas at Austin and University of Durham ("Castle" College) in the UK. Her parents certainly did not see baking in her future, as she had no interest whatsoever in cooking when she was young. In fact, she still doesn't - baking cakes is a necessary prerequisite for decorating them, which is her real passion... and then eating them, which follows closely behind as an enthusiastic second.
Zoё's cake journey began in Boston, Massachusetts, when she took a few basic cake-decorating classes, simply with the goal of making cakes for her first child, who was born a few months later. From there she taught herself more advanced techniques as her love of decorating grew. Over a dozen years later (and back in Houston again), she remains just as excited about honing these skills and treasures the opportunity to create whimsical celebration cakes for family, friends, and now clients through Sugar Fairy Creations. As she always says, Sugar Fairy Creations is her way of supporting an increasingly expensive hobby!
Zoё's dedication to edible art drives her to invest extra hours into each cake without passing on the cost to her clients, allowing her to bring her creative visions to life. Renowned for her impeccable attention to detail, she provides a personalized bespoke experience, which is why she accepts only a limited number of orders each month. Zoё personally guides clients through every step of the process, ensuring that each cake perfectly reflects their vision. She wants her customers to cherish their creations as much as she does, feeling the joyful magic of Sugar Fairy Creations in every piece.
As a little girl in England, Zoё loved the idea of "fairy cakes," which are simply-decorated British cupcakes, typically served at children's parties. In her young mind, "fairy cakes" conjured delightful images of magic, whimsy, and fantasy, and that's what our cakes are all about. "Sugar fairy" is a twist on the Sugarplum Fairy of Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker and on Cicely Mary Barker's Flower Fairies. They are emblematic of family togetherness, storytelling, nostalgia, and truly beautiful art - what better symbolism could there be?
We though you might like to see the very first logo that we considered when starting our business journey (pictured). In the end, we went with a much cleaner, more versatile look, but we believe it captured the spirit of Sugar Fairy Creations perfectly. It is also how we chose our signature colors. We are so excited to be starting this new family venture, and we are thrilled that you are along for the ride. We look forward to making memories together with you!
Although Sugar Fairy Creations as a business is new, our skills, service, and meticulousness are not, so rest assured knowing that you are in the best of hands when you come to us. We have been making cakes for family, friends, and friends-of-friends for well over a decade, and our company is based in our home, so you know we are not going anywhere - you literally know where we live! Most importantly, because we only take a few orders per month, every single cake is just as meaningful to us as it is to you. This is not a high-profit business that we're running; we do this because we deeply love creating edible art that becomes the centerpiece of some of your favorite moments. We can't imagine a more rewarding feeling of honor than being given the opportunity to be a part of your special event with your loved ones, and we never take that lightly.
"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from safe harbor, catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover."
– Mark Twain
“It’s impossible not to love someone who makes you cake.
But children are a different matter.
They need cake. Desperately.”
– Roald Dahl
